now it’s been awhile since I last wrote, but things have been crazy busy and I just haven’t had an opportunity… but last night had something happen that is definitely blog worthy so here is the story on that as well as pics from the last few weeks that are more pleasant than the “others” :-)…So here’s the story of what happened to my eye:
So I RUSHED home last night so Curt and I could go on our first ride with the Woodlands Cycling Club and Curt and I were *so excited* about it all day b/c it was going to be a gorgeous evening, a great loop route in The Woodlands, etc. and we are prepping and training for the MS150 coming up in April. It was going to be our first ride in the training regimen, so of course we were pumped and Curt had spent the last couple days getting the bikes ready, hunting down our gear in storage, etc.
SO I rush home, change very quickly, get some yogurt b/c I didn’t want to be famished, get all of our things and Curt and I are rushing out the door – I also tell Curt to go back upstairs and get my phone (he had been on it and I was yelling at him to bring it with us – you never know, right? But he didn’t hear me so I sent him back up for it) and then we were on our way… the group meets at Northshore park on Tuesday evenings (approx. 1 mile from my parent’s house) so of course we were just going to ride there…
We get to Meadowlake park, and we’re chatting with Curt in front and I’m on the shoulder and he’s on the road… and you know how in between the shoulder and the road it’s like a half inch difference in height? Well I didn’t get my tire perpendicular enough to the angle to come up over it (b/c I was attempting to get on the road, failed of course), skidded against the ledge and just started to tumble… I didn’t even get a chance to pull my foot out so me the bike went down together – saw my head hit the concrete and was back up in a flash – on my way up from the fall I saw blood spurting out so my words to Curt were, “I’m gushing, I’m gushing blood” so of course my gloved hand went to my eye to put pressure – I immediately went into emergency mode and Curt got our bikes to the side in the grass, I told him to get my phone out and call my Dad to come get us, and started walking toward the bathroom of Meadowlake park to assess the damage and get a little cleaned up… saw in the bathroom my eye split open below my eyebrow, Curt came in to see how I was, and by that time we walked out to wait for my dad and he got there pretty quick (b/c it’s so close and b/c I’m sure he was hurrying!). He even thought to bring towels, so at that point I started crying for 2 reasons: 1) I didn’t want another scar, especially on my face and 2)
I had been SO excited about our ride that night and I knew the night was shot – I’m just so selfish with my personal time that I was just mad about it! We got home, Curt walked the bikes home and was home just a few minutes after us, Dad called Mom to come home so we could all decide if it was bad enough to go into the ER. So I was laying down, Mom got there, we decided to go so they were getting my insurance out, etc. trying to figure out where we could go and I was like, “Let’s just go if we’re gonna go” b/c I knew it would take forever and I was hoping to salvage some of the night… so we ended up going to an Urgent Care Center in The Woodlands and we walked right in and they got me taken care of! They were worried about concussion as I wasn’t feeling too hot (besides the obvious of course, but beyond was really weak and slightly nauseous but not “nauseous”) and also wanted to do a chest x-ray b/c my left chest was killing me and they wanted to make sure part of my lung hadn’t collapsed or something… so got 4 stitches and got the all clear – an hour later we were out of there…So the damage done is of course, my eye, my left side is pretty beat up internally though I actually don’t have a lot of cuts… My left pinky got a nice bit so I have a hole above my knuckle… HILARIOUS b/c my worst rollerblading fall ever was the day Brandon and I broke up – I was furiously skating and took a fall from a stick I didn’t avoid and have a scar right above where this cut is from that – my poor left pinky gets all of it! Haha… and then my neck and left side are pretty sore so going to go to the chiropractor today, have some slight road rash on both legs but really not that bad at ALL, and a small road rash on my left arm… so I rode the bike
down the whole way – the bike isn’t too worse for wear… scraped handle bars but Curt said that’s about it!So have a headache today and am sore, but otherwise ok and will be glad to resume training
hopefully next week (or maybe sooner) :-). I’m just kind of chalking it up to this is what happens when you live an active life, and I’m really lucky considering there wasn’t more damage/injury so am just thankful for that!So that’s the gist of that, and here are some pics to entertain from some great Aggie football games, pics of my view from the new Houston office, etc. Enjoy and everyone have a great day – I’m going to go home soon and put some ice on my eye b/c it’s throbbing!

xx
